Motor Vehicle Operator NA-07.

This position is open to candidates who live in the local area of Big Island (Hawaii). The vacancy will remain open until filled, with the first cutoff date of 8/27/2026.

Responsibilities

• Drives passenger buses regardless of gross vehicle weight and various types of trucks such as platform trucks, van trucks, stake trucks, dump trucks, and trash removal trucks weighing from 26,000 to 32,000.
• Assists with loading and unloading cargo and materials.
• Ensures vehicle is not loaded beyond the rated capacity by checking cargo papers and by visual observation.
• Completes trip tickets and preventive maintenance service records.
• Fills out driver's accident report in case of accident.
• Performs driver's maintenance in accordance with established rules and regulations.
• Receives instructions from the supervisor or dispatcher regarding the type of vehicle to be operated, destination, purpose, deadline, and work to be done.
• Operates vehicles in all kinds of weather, traffic, and road conditions at highway speeds.

Requirements

• Must meet qualification, eligibility, and background requirements for this position.
• A one-year probationary period may be required.
• Must satisfactorily complete an employment verification (E-Verify) check.
• Exposure to outdoor elements, dirt, fumes, and potential physical hazards such as cuts, bruises, or broken bones.
• Must pass all required pre-employment background checks, including a Tier 1 background investigation and physical examination.
• This position is designated as a Testing Designated Position (TDP) and is subject to random drug testing.
• Must sign DA Form 5019-R as part of the DA Drug-Free Federal Workplace Program.
• Must be available to work shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
• Possession of a valid State Driver’s License or Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) to operate a government vehicle with a capacity for transporting 24 passengers is required.
• Must successfully pass a Medical Physical Examination.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED).
• Ability to communicate in English at a level sufficient to perform duties safely and effectively.
• Demonstrated skills in successfully operating standard tools.
• Experience in performing duties similar to those described in this job posting.
• Requires a valid state driver’s license to operate a 15-passenger vehicle or a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with no restrictions to operate a 24-passenger vehicle.
• Knowledge of vehicle dimensions (height, weight, width, length) to judge overhead and side clearances, turning radius, and braking distance.
• Knowledge of safety rules and traffic regulations.
