About the role

The DCU Institute of Future Media, Democracy and Society is seeking a researcher to work on projects examining the intersection of media, democracy, and digital technologies. The successful candidate will contribute to ongoing research initiatives exploring disinformation, media pluralism, deliberative democracy, and digital media literacy.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct research on media and democratic processes, including disinformation, media ownership, and deliberative engagement
  • Contribute to project outputs including reports, academic publications, and policy briefs
  • Collaborate with Institute researchers on EU and nationally funded projects
  • Assist in the organisation of workshops, seminars, and public engagement activities
  • Participate in the Institute's research dissemination and knowledge exchange activities

Requirements

  • PhD completed or near completion in media studies, political communication, political science, sociology, or a related discipline
  • Demonstrated research track record appropriate to career stage
  • Experience with qualitative and/or quantitative research methods relevant to media and democracy studies
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of digital media platforms and their role in democratic processes
  • Familiarity with debates around disinformation, media pluralism, and online political communication
  • Experience working on collaborative research projects
  • Evidence of ability to work independently and as part of a research team

  • Excellent analytical and critical thinking abilities
  • Proficiency in relevant research software or analytical tools
  • Strong organisational and project management skills
  • Ability to communicate complex research findings to diverse audiences
