About the role

DCU Institute of Future Media, Democracy and Society (FuJo) is seeking to recruit a Postdoctoral Researcher to work on the Horizon Europe project "Jolt: Harnessing Digital and Data Technologies for Journalism". The project aims to understand how digital and data technologies can support journalism and democratic resilience. The researcher will be based at FuJo, Dublin City University.

Responsibilities

• Conduct research on the intersection of digital technologies, journalism, and democratic processes
• Contribute to the design and implementation of research activities within the Jolt project
• Analyse data and produce high-quality research outputs, including academic publications and policy reports
• Collaborate with project partners across Europe and engage with stakeholders from journalism, policy, and civil society
• Participate in project meetings, workshops, and dissemination activities
• Contribute to the supervision of PhD students and assist with teaching-related activities as appropriate

Requirements

• Hold a PhD in a relevant discipline such as Media Studies, Communication, Political Science, Sociology, or a related field
• Demonstrated research experience in areas related to digital media, journalism, democracy, or data technologies
• Strong track record of publication in peer-reviewed journals and academic outlets
• Experience with qualitative and/or quantitative research methods
• Excellent written and oral communication skills in English

Qualifications

• Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative research team
• Strong organisational and project management skills
• Experience engaging with non-academic stakeholders such as media professionals, policymakers, or civil society organisations
• Familiarity with the European research landscape and Horizon Europe projects is desirable

Schedule

• Full-time position, 37 hours per week
