About the role

The DCU Institute for Future Media, Democracy and Society (FuJo) invites applications for a Postdoctoral Researcher position in the area of media, democracy, and digital platforms. The successful candidate will contribute to research projects examining the relationship between digital media, democratic processes, and societal resilience.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct independent and collaborative research on topics related to media, democracy, and digital platforms, including disinformation, media pluralism, and online political communication
  • Lead and contribute to the preparation of research outputs, including academic publications, reports, and policy briefs
  • Participate in the design and execution of research methodologies, which may include content analysis, computational social science methods, qualitative interviews, and/or survey research
  • Contribute to the management and delivery of funded research projects, including reporting to funders and meeting project milestones
  • Engage with stakeholders including policymakers, civil society organisations, and media practitioners to disseminate research findings
  • Present research at academic conferences and public events
  • Contribute to the supervision of graduate students where appropriate
  • Participate in the intellectual life of the Institute, including seminars, workshops, and public engagement activities

Qualifications

  • PhD in a relevant discipline (e.g., Political Science, Communication Studies, Media Studies, Sociology, Data Science, or a related field) completed or nearing completion
  • Demonstrated research expertise in areas such as disinformation, media and democracy, political communication, digital platforms, or related topics
  • Proven track record of research publications appropriate to career stage
  • Experience with qualitative and/or quantitative research methods
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative research team
  • Excellent organisational and project management skills

Skills

  • Expertise in relevant research methods (e.g., content analysis, survey design, computational methods, interviewing, focus groups)
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking abilities
  • Proficiency in relevant software tools (e.g., SPSS, R, NVivo, or equivalent)
  • Excellent academic writing and presentation skills
  • Ability to manage multiple research tasks and meet deadlines
  • Strong interpersonal and networking skills
