Middle School Assistant Track Coach

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities

• Uses a variety of coaching techniques and methods along with media to meet the needs of student athletes and the track & field program as a means of improving the abilities of student athletes in the assigned sport.
• Affords assistance with the supervision all high school track & field activities, contests, and practice sessions to promote individual growth in athletic skills, teamwork, discipline, respect, and good sportsmanship.
• Collaborates with other members of school staff to plan and put in place instructional goals and objectives to ensure overall educational development of student athletes.
• Fulfills performance criteria for competition and evaluates student athletic abilities on an initial and regular basis.
• Ensures and enforces safety measures for student athletes, equipment, materials, and facilities.
• Monitors and enforces student eligibility criteria for extracurricular participation.
• Develops and coordinates a continuing system of evaluations of all coaches within the track & field program and makes changes based on findings and the ongoing needs of the track & field program.
• Accompanies and supervises student athletes during athletic competitions in assigned sports when traveling to compete.
• Instructs and advises student athletes on NCAA regulations specific to academic requirements for scholarships and recruiting purposes.
• Maintains a regular system of files containing all material relevant to the track & field program including eligibility forms, transfer forms, grade reports, and ensures that all ACSD#1 District policies are followed.
• Affords encouragement for sportsmanlike conduct in all phases of athletic participation.
• Affords assistance in the maintenance and inventory of all fixed assets of the track & field program.
• Affords assistance in the process of cleaning, repairing, and storing all program athletic equipment.
• Annually establishes and meets performance goals.

Skills, Knowledge, And Abilities Required

• Effective communication skills;
• Robust knowledge of the sport of track & field including strategy, rules, and coaching;
• Ability to use time effectively;
• Good organizational skills;
• Ability to maintain a positive relationship with other staff by collaborating and working cooperatively with them (including supervisors);
• Knowledge of physiological, psychological, emotional and educational behavioral development of children and/or adolescents;
• Ability to help coaches achieve consensus.

Entry Qualifications

• Mandatory: Candidate must hold, or be eligible to hold, a Wyoming Professional Teaching Standards Board (PTSB) endorsement as a Head Coach- Track & Field, Assistant Coach - Track & Field, or a Head Coach endorsement in another sport.
• PREFERRED: 1+ years of experience as a high school track & field coach.
• Valid Wyoming teaching certification.
• Bachelor's degree in a related field.

• Vision: (which may be corrected) to read small print; view a computer screen for prolonged periods.
• Hearing: (which may be corrected) to answer telephones and tolerate exposure to noisy conditions.
• Speech: to be understood in face-to-face communications; to speak with a level of proficiency and volume to be understood over a telephone.
• Upper Body Mobility: use hands and fingers to feel, grasp, and manipulate small objects; manipulate fingers, twist and bend at the wrist and elbow; extend arms to reach outward and upward; use hands and arms to lift objects; turn, raise, and lower the head.
• Strength: to lift, push, pull and/or carry objects which weigh as much as 50 or more pounds on a frequent basis.
• Environmental Requirements: encounter constant work interruptions; work cooperatively with others; work independently; work outdoors and indoors.
• Mental Requirements: read, write, understand, interpret and apply information at a moderately complex level essential for successful job performance; math skills at a high school proficiency level; judgement and the ability to process information quickly; learn quickly and follow verbal procedures and standards; give verbal instruction; rank tasks in order of importance; copy, compare, compile, and coordinate information and records.
• Additional Work Conditions and Physical Abilities: Requires travel to multiple sites.
