Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
- Uses a variety of coaching techniques and methods along with media to meet the needs of student athletes and the track & field program as a means of improving the abilities of student athletes in the assigned sport.
- Affords assistance with the supervision all high school track & field activities, contests, and practice sessions to promote individual growth in athletic skills, teamwork, discipline, respect, and good sportsmanship.
- Collaborates with other members of school staff to plan and put in place instructional goals and objectives to ensure overall educational development of student athletes.
- Fulfills performance criteria for competition and evaluates student athletic abilities on an initial and regular basis.
- Ensures and enforces safety measures for student athletes, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Monitors and enforces student eligibility criteria for extracurricular participation.
- Develops and coordinates a continuing system of evaluations of all coaches within the track & field program and makes changes based on findings and the ongoing needs of the track & field program.
- Accompanies and supervises student athletes during athletic competitions in assigned sports when traveling to compete.
- Instructs and advises student athletes on NCAA regulations specific to academic requirements for scholarships and recruiting purposes.
- Maintains a regular system of files containing all material relevant to the track & field program including eligibility forms, transfer forms, grade reports, and ensures that all ACSD#1 District policies are followed.
- Affords encouragement for sportsmanlike conduct in all phases of athletic participation.
- Affords assistance in the maintenance and inventory of all fixed assets of the track & field program.
- Affords assistance in the process of cleaning, repairing, and storing all program athletic equipment.
- Annually establishes and meets performance goals.
Skills, Knowledge, And Abilities Required
- Effective communication skills;
- Robust knowledge of the sport of track & field including strategy, rules, and coaching;
- Ability to use time effectively;
- Good organizational skills;
- Ability to maintain a positive relationship with other staff by collaborating and working cooperatively with them (including supervisors);
- Knowledge of physiological, psychological, emotional and educational behavioral development of children and/or adolescents;
- Ability to help coaches achieve consensus.
Entry Qualifications
- Mandatory: Candidate must hold, or be eligible to hold, a Wyoming Professional Teaching Standards Board (PTSB) endorsement as a Head Coach- Track & Field, Assistant Coach - Track & Field, or a Head Coach endorsement in another sport.
- PREFERRED: 1+ years of experience as a high school track & field coach.
- Valid Wyoming teaching certification.
- Bachelor's degree in a related field.
Physical Abilities And Working Conditions
- Vision: (which may be corrected) to read small print; view a computer screen for prolonged periods.
- Hearing: (which may be corrected) to answer telephones and tolerate exposure to noisy conditions.
- Speech: to be understood in face-to-face communications; to speak with a level of proficiency and volume to be understood over a telephone.
- Upper Body Mobility: use hands and fingers to feel, grasp, and manipulate small objects; manipulate fingers, twist and bend at the wrist and elbow; extend arms to reach outward and upward; use hands and arms to lift objects; turn, raise, and lower the head.
- Strength: to lift, push, pull and/or carry objects which weigh as much as 50 or more pounds on a frequent basis.
- Environmental Requirements: encounter constant work interruptions; work cooperatively with others; work independently; work outdoors and indoors.
- Mental Requirements: read, write, understand, interpret and apply information at a moderately complex level essential for successful job performance; math skills at a high school proficiency level; judgement and the ability to process information quickly; learn quickly and follow verbal procedures and standards; give verbal instruction; rank tasks in order of importance; copy, compare, compile, and coordinate information and records.
