About the role

A STS Tax Senior Manager, State and Local Taxation advises clients on tax implications, recommends courses of action, and identifies compliance methods. This role involves marketing, business development, and tax compliance, consulting, and controversy representation.

Responsibilities

  • Researches and analyzes complex tax situations, prepares reports, and develops relationships with state tax departments.
  • Reviews and responds to state tax notices, provides exam support, and drafts tax memorandums and opinions.
  • Manages engagements, ensures tax engagement letters are adopted, and assists in developing consultative selling strategies.
  • Represents clients in tax authority disputes, utilizes tax software, and negotiates settlements and disclosure agreements.
  • Develops and implements tax strategies, prepares tax accrual workpapers, and applies relevant tax standards.
  • Supervises junior staff, evaluates performance, and provides performance feedback.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field.
  • Eight or more years of relevant experience in state and local/multistate taxation.
  • Prior experience supervising tax professionals.
  • Experience with corporate taxation, consolidations, and partnerships.
  • CPA certification or equivalent.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel and Word.
  • Familiarity with tax research tools and software.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Accounting/Taxation or Juris Doctor preferred.
  • Excellent communication and analytical skills.
  • Solid organizational and multitasking abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and manage a team.
  • Executive presence and ability to interact with all levels of professionals.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain strong client relationships.

The pay range for this position is $99,750 - $262,500, with specific ranges for different locations.
