Mental Health Nurse Aide

Our services include a state-of-the-art psychiatric urgent care center, a soon-to-be-built pediatric behavioral health center, outpatient, inpatient, partial hospitalization (day programs), assessment and testing, residential, addiction treatment, and specialty services such as crisis response, employee assistance programs, forensic psychiatry and psychology, and neuromodulation.
About the role
As a Psychiatric Technician Level 1 at Pine Rest, you’ll be part of a tight-knit team that believes in the healing power of your expertise and compassion. Under general supervision and according to departmental policies and procedures, you will perform physical and emotional care for clients with mental illness and/or developmental delays. You will actively participate in safety management, milieu management, crisis intervention, and prevention.
Responsibilities
- Provides a safe and secure environment for persons served and staff in both individual and group settings.
- Collaborates in day-to-day planning/development of person-served programming and implementation of programs.
- May assist persons served with personal care, including bathing, shaving, washing hands, styling hair, using the bathroom, and dressing.
- Actively participates in safety management, crisis intervention, and prevention, including monitoring, assessment, de-escalation, implementation of restrictive measures, and emergency psychiatric and medical care.
- Surveys, documents, and reports all safety repair and maintenance needs.
- May perform household duties such as cleaning, cooking, and laundry.
- Drives and escorts persons served to community outings and appointments.
- Documents all progress notes, medication administration, and any other relevant information, reporting any immediate concerns according to departmental policies and procedures.
- Monitors and reports any potential risk to persons served that could lead to an adverse outcome.
- May be responsible for both random and scheduled drug testing and conducting searches of persons served and their belongings.
- Completes reports and paperwork as needed.
- Assists in the teaching of persons served/family, including social skills, daily living skills, and behavioral and coping techniques.
- Role models the mission and values of the organization through appropriate social behavior and problem-solving.
- Provides spiritual, emotional, social, mental, and physical support to persons served.
- May learn and help accomplish treatment plans and goals of persons served.
- May perform basic office duties including answering phones, filing, scanning, uploading, and using Microsoft Word.
- Assists in training new staff.
- May support and promote a recovery-focused environment and person-centered approach within the program.
- If working in Hospital and Residential services, responsible for role modeling the mission and values of the organization, presenting a professional image in appearance, attitudes, behaviors, time management, and communication skills.
- Obtains necessary knowledge of medications required by the position.
Requirements
- Completion of a minimum of six months post-high school education in behavioral sciences or equivalent is preferred.
- CNA certification or one to two years of college education is preferred.
Note: While this position is advertised as 'Mental Health Nurse Aide' for recruitment purposes, your official job title at Pine Rest will be Psychiatric Technician, Nurse Tech, or Behavioral Health Professional based on your experience, credentials, and assigned unit.
Schedule
This position is onsite and may require both weekend and holiday hours.
