Medical Screener - Reception Technician (Customer Service)

About the role

Responsible for greeting donors at the plasma collection center and conducting a series of registration procedures to verify donor suitability for the plasma pheresis process. Assists qualified donors in completing the screening process, which includes assessing self-administered health history, answering basic medical questions, referring donors to medical staff when necessary, and performing health screening procedures such as blood pressure, pulse, weight, and temperature. Performs finger stick to obtain donor’s hematocrit and total protein levels. Upon completion of appropriate training, educates new donors on the use of therapeutic products made from donated plasma, including the screening process, health screening tests, appointment system, donation fees, center policies, proper nutrition, and other relevant information. Ensures all donor questions are answered promptly, accurately, and professionally. Registers applicants and transfer donors based on training and operational needs. Answers the telephone and transfers calls as needed. Monitors donors for reactions during or after the pheresis process and notifies appropriate staff. Maintains cleanliness and efficiency in the work environment, ensuring sufficient supplies and forms are available. Adheres to HSE and OSHA policies and promotes safety. Maintains confidentiality of all personnel, donor, and center information. Cross-trains in other areas as needed.

• Perform health screening procedures such as blood pressure, pulse, weight, and temperature.
• Obtain donor’s hematocrit and total protein levels through finger stick.
• Educate new donors on the use of therapeutic products made from donated plasma, including the screening process, health screening tests, appointment system, donation fees, center policies, proper nutrition, and other relevant information.
• Answer donor questions promptly, accurately, and professionally.
• Register applicants and transfer donors based on training and operational needs.
• Answer the telephone and transfer calls as needed.
• Maintain alertness and awareness to any donor reactions during or after the pheresis process and notify appropriate staff.
• Alert Group Leader or Supervisor of donor flow issues.
• Accurately record donor data in the electronic donor information management system as outlined in the SOPs.
• Understand and follow policies and procedures associated with hyper immune programs at the center if applicable.
• Maintain a clean and efficient work environment and ensure sufficient operating supplies and forms are available as needed.
• Follow all Health Safety & Environmental (HSE) and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) policies and procedures.
• Promote safety in all actions.
• Maintain confidentiality of all personnel, donor, and center information.
• May be cross-trained in other areas to meet the needs of the business.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Minimum of three (3) months experience in a clerical or customer service related position, preferably in a medical or health provider environment.
• Must be able to perform basic math calculations.
