Medical Screener - Reception Technician (Customer Service)
About the role
Responsible for greeting donors at the plasma collection center and conducting a series of registration procedures to verify donor suitability for the plasma pheresis process. Reports to the Assistant Center Manager.
Responsibilities
- Aids qualified donors in completing the screening process in compliance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Assesses self-administered health histories and answers basic medical questions.
- Refers donors to medical staff when necessary and performs health screening procedures such as blood pressure, pulse, weight, and temperature.
- Performs finger stick to obtain donor’s hematocrit and total protein levels.
- Upon completion of appropriate training, educates new donors on the use of therapeutic products made from donated plasma.
- Answers donor questions promptly, accurately, and professionally.
- Registers applicants and transfers donors based on appropriate training and operational needs.
- Answers the telephone and transfers calls to appropriate staff members.
- Maintains alertness and awareness during the pheresis process and notifies staff of any reactions.
- Alerts Group Leader or Supervisor of donor flow issues.
- Accurately records donor data in the electronic donor information management system as per SOPs.
- Understands policies and procedures associated with hyper immune programs if applicable.
- Maintains a clean and efficient work environment, ensuring sufficient operating supplies and forms are available.
- Fulfills all Health Safety & Environmental (HSE) and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) policies and procedures.
- Promotes safety in all actions.
- Maintains confidentiality of all personnel, donor, and center information.
- May be cross-trained in other areas to meet business needs.
- May require bilingual skills, at the discretion of the organization, to meet business needs.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Minimum of three (3) months experience in a clerical or customer service related position, preferably in a medical or health provider environment, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Ability to perform basic math calculations.
Skills
- Understanding and following oral and written instructions.
- Standing and walking up to 100% of time.
- Reaching, bending, kneeling, and having high-level manual dexterity.
- Occasionally lifting and carrying up to 25 pounds.
- Working in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions.
- Frequent exposure to hazardous chemicals, extreme temperatures, and bloodborne pathogens.
- Wearing personal protective equipment as required.
- Working overtime and extended hours to support center operational needs.
