The Imaging Scheduler/Insurance Specialist schedules procedures and appointments for the cardiac/imaging department, performs pre-authorization verification, validates billing criteria, and conducts coding audits for Idaho Falls Community Hospital. This role ensures appointments meet insurance medical necessity requirements and verifies pre-authorization for all necessary exams.

Responsibilities

  • Answer incoming phone calls in a professional and friendly manner, facilitate scheduling of exams, dispense exam preparations and instructions, and respond to general imaging questions.
  • Assist technologists with comprehensive patient screening prior to examination.
  • Help patients change into gowns (when necessary), screen and document patient information, transport patients, and answer questions to prepare them for imaging procedures, ensuring their comfort and ease.
  • Review physician orders and verify availability of previous images used for comparison.
  • Accept and process incoming images from other facilities for comparison.
  • Assist with documentation of appropriate patient information necessary for exam interpretation and patient care.
  • Support schedulers, technologists, and other coworkers in the department as needed.
  • Promote effective working relationships and collaborate as part of the team to meet hospital and department goals.
  • Troubleshoot technical problems and work with vendors to resolve issues.
  • Maintain flexibility as the department grows, accepting additional responsibilities as requested by the department director.

Requirements

  • High School graduate or equivalent.
  • Current BLS Certification.
  • Knowledge of diagnoses and CPT codes for ancillary services.
  • Must have AAPC Certification or become certified within one year of hire.
  • Prior experience with coding and billing for outpatient services.
