About the role
The role involves preparing patients for examinations, performing preliminary tests, assisting physicians and staff, and managing clerical duties. Cross-training is also required to perform Patient Reception Rep duties.
Responsibilities
- Prepares patients for examination by performing preliminary physical tests.
- Takes blood pressure, weight, and temperature.
- Reports patient history summary.
- Cleans exam rooms and obtains lab specimens.
- Selects appropriate equipment for specimen collection.
- Verifies specimen orders according to department policy.
- Prepares exam rooms for patient encounters and assists LIP as requested.
- Maintains appropriate levels of supplies and relevant forms for testing.
- Documents medical information in electronic medical records.
- Performs electrocardiograms and other relevant tests, including point of care testing.
- Verifies patient information through interviews and records medical history.
- Coordinates with front office personnel and ancillary staff.
- Assists in front office functions such as checkout/in duties, claim creation, and discharge paperwork.
- Performs injections and other duties as directed by a provider and manager.
- Performs other selected clinical and clerical duties as assigned.
- May be cross-trained to perform Patient Reception Rep job duties.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Graduate of a post-secondary medical assisting education program accredited by the National Healthcare Association (NHA), CAHEA, ABHES, or a recognized accrediting agency.
- Current certification from the AAMA, NCCT, AMCA, NAHP, NCMA, or AMT.
- AHA BLS certification.

- Knowledge of medical terminology, basic computer and data entry skills, and medical record management.
