Responsibilities

• Prepares patients for examination by performing preliminary physical tests
• Takes blood pressure, weight, and temperature
• Reports patient history summary
• Cleans exam rooms and obtains lab specimens
• Selects appropriate equipment for specimen collection
• Verifies specimen orders according to department policy
• Prepares exam rooms for patient encounters and assists Laboratory Information Personnel (LIP)
• Maintains appropriate levels of supplies and relevant forms for testing and documents statistics
• Performs clerical duties such as patient registration, answering phones, scheduling appointments, maintaining and filing medical records, and distributing reports
• Performs electrocardiograms and other relevant tests, including point-of-care testing, following established policies and procedures and universal precautions
• Documents medical information in electronic medical records, including medication and refill information and patient call documentation
• Organizes paperwork and filing
• Coordinates with front office personnel and ancillary staff in a professional and positive manner, adhering to policies and procedures to support patient service
• Affixes a notarized "request for access" form and copies of a State-accepted Certified Medical Assistant certificate to the New Jersey Prescription Monitoring Program (NJPMP); performs NJPMP monitoring under the direction of the LIP
• Performs injections, subcutaneous or intramuscular, in accordance with Capital Health policies
• Performs other selected clinical and clerical duties as assigned
• May cross-train to perform Patient Reception Rep job duties as needed

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Graduate of a post-secondary medical assisting education program accredited by the National Healthcare Association (NHA), or its successor, The Committee on Allied Health Education and Accreditation of the American Medical Association (CAHEA), or its successor; Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES), or its successor; or any accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education
• At least 330 clock hours of instruction in the administration of intramuscular and subcutaneous injections and instruction and demonstration in pertinent anatomy and physiology, appropriate to injection procedures, choice of equipment, proper technique, including sterile technique, hazards and complications, and emergency procedures
• Current certification from the Certifying Board of the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT), the American Medical Certification Association (AMCA), the National Association for Health Professionals (NAHP), the National Certification Medical Association (NCMA), or registration from the American Medical Technologists (AMT), or any other recognized certifying body approved by the board
• AHA BLS
