About the role

Responsibilities
- Prepares patients for examination by performing preliminary physical tests, taking vital signs, and reporting patient history.
- Cleans exam rooms and obtains lab specimens.
- Aids physicians and other staff members as needed.
- Selects appropriate equipment for specimen collection and verifies specimen orders.
- Prepares exam rooms for patient encounters and assists Licensed Independent Practitioners (LIPs) as requested.
- Maintains appropriate levels of supplies and relevant forms for testing performed and documents statistics as assigned.
- Performs clerical duties such as patient registration, answering phones, scheduling appointments, and maintaining and filing medical records.
- Initiates, maintains, and distributes reports related to patient care.
- Performs electrocardiograms and other relevant tests, including point-of-care testing, following established policies and procedures and universal precautions.
- Verifies patient information through interviews and records medical history, confirms the purpose of visits, and documents medical information in electronic medical records.
- Coordinates with front office personnel and ancillary staff in a professional and positive manner, adhering to policies and procedures to support patient service.
- Assists in front office functions as assigned, including checkout/in duties, claim creation, and discharge paperwork.
- Uploads a notarized "request for access" form and a copy of their State-accepted Certified Medical Assistant certificate to the NJPMP (New Jersey Prescription Monitoring Program); performs NJPMP monitoring under the direction of the LIP.
- Performs injections, subcutaneous or intramuscular, in accordance with Capital Health policies.
- Performs other selected clinical and clerical duties as directed by a provider and manager, ensuring compliance with Capital Health's objectives and policies.
- May cross-train to perform Patient Reception Rep job duties as needed.
- May be assigned to other Capital Health Medical Group Practices as needed.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Graduate of a post-secondary medical assisting education program accredited by the National Healthcare Association (NHA), or its successor, The Committee on Allied Health Education and Accreditation of the American Medical Association (CAHEA), or its successor; Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES), or its successor; or any accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
- At least 330 clock hours of instruction in the administration of intramuscular and subcutaneous injections and instruction and demonstration in pertinent anatomy and physiology, choice of equipment, proper technique, including sterile technique, hazards and complications, and emergency procedures.
- Maintain current certification from the Certifying Board of the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT), the American Medical Certification Association (AMCA), the National Association for Health Professionals (NAHP), the National Certification Medical Association (NCMA), or registration from the American Medical Technologists (AMT), or any other recognized certifying body approved by the board.
- AHA BLS certification.
