Position Summary

The Mechanical/Civil Engineering Manager provides leadership and technical oversight within GSE Solutions’ Design & Analysis division, leading and mentoring a team to deliver high-quality engineering work on time and within budget. This role provides technical direction, resolves project issues, and ensures effective problem-solving with clients, project teams, and stakeholders. The Manager also supports project management by preparing scopes of work, budgets, and person-hour estimations, ensuring projects are completed within budget and meet established timelines.

Pay Range

$175,000 to $190,000, DOE

Essential Functions

  • Provide technical direction, oversight, and mentorship to ensure high-quality work is delivered on time and within budget.
  • Review product quality, resolve technical issues, and collaborate with stakeholders to address problems effectively.
  • Offer immediate feedback on team performance to ensure proper training and foster career development.
  • Build and maintain client relationships through regular visits, project meetings, and identifying new business opportunities.
  • Identify and report project issues impacting quality, schedule, or budget to the Project Manager and Responsible Engineer promptly.
  • Collaborate with the Project Manager to address out-of-scope items, ensuring no work proceeds without client and Project Manager approval.
  • Assists the Project Manager in preparing scopes of work, budgets, and schedules for proposals.
  • Ensure projects are completed within the proposed budget and timeline, meeting all client expectations.
  • Maintain an individual percent billable as determined by goals set by the Director of Engineering.
  • Oversee performance of engineering calculations, technical drawings, project plans, and specifications to support design work.
  • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary engineering teams, clients, vendors, and contractors to ensure successful project execution.
  • Maintain detailed documentation to track project development and the design process.

  • Comprehensive knowledge of engineering services within the nuclear industry.
  • Skilled in preparing staffing plans, revenue forecasts, and project budgets.
  • Ability to obtain unescorted access to nuclear facilities and other client locations.
  • Strong leadership ability and emotional intelligence skills.
  • Ability to coach and mentor in a remote setting.
  • Proven leadership skills with the ability to inspire and guide team members to achieve both department and project goals.

Education & Experience

  • BS Degree in Mechanical or Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
  • 7+ years of experience in design engineering, supporting nuclear or industrial projects.
  • 5+ years of manager experience in a similar field.
  • Professional Engineers (PE) License required with state reciprocity available.

Working Conditions

  • This position is primarily remote and performed in a home office or virtual work environment.
  • Work is generally sedentary in nature, with occasional standing and walking required.
  • Loading and unloading equipment and materials.
  • Lights and temperature conditions are typically controlled and adequate.
  • The role may require work in technical, client, or operational environments, which may include exposure to varying noise levels, equipment, or facility conditions.
  • Standard office and computer equipment will be used regularly, and travel or on-site presence may be required as business needs dictate.
