About the role
We are seeking skilled Maintenance Electronic Controls personnel to plan and layout work, analyze and repair electrical control systems. This role involves directing the repair of a variety of multi-purpose electronic and/or electro-mechanical control systems on industrial equipment such as NC/CNC machining systems, mini-computers, microprocessors, AC/DC drives, process controllers (PLC), etc.
Responsibilities
- Investigates faults or difficulties being reported by the operations team on equipment controlled by multi-purpose electronic and/or electro-mechanical control systems.
- Analyzes the reported malfunction and determines the level of repair needed, notifying the supervisor and beginning the repair process. Repairs include wiring, controls, components replacement, and control modifications.
- Removes covers or machine guarding to gain access to components for testing and repairs, ensuring compliance with industry safety protocols.
- Determines proper methods for diagnosing, troubleshooting, and repairing failed components, submitting information for supervisor or Facilities office approval.
- Installs and maintains electrical equipment that powers factory machinery, such as lathes, multi-axis drilling and milling machines, paint booths, automated assembly and layup robots, electric welders, and similar complex equipment.
- Works from work orders, service requests, blueprints, wiring sketches, and Electrical schematics, utilizing verbal information from senior employees and maintenance supervisors.
- Tests equipment after repairs or installations to ensure safety, performance, and accuracy meet requirements before turning it over to end users.
- Communicates with management and supervision by verbal, written, and electronic means.
- Examines malfunctioning electrical equipment and determines if repairs or replacement parts are needed, disassembling and taking parts to a repair shop.
- Makes critical adjustments during trouble-shooting and testing events, including changes to ladder logic, parameter settings, PLC programming, and other electrical components.
- Establishes arrangements and locations of components to eliminate electronic interference and ensures proper heat dissipation and safe access for maintenance.
- Analyzes and repairs as needed automatic control instruments and related recording devices used in industrial manufacturing equipment such as ovens, furnaces, clean rooms, and autoclaves.
- Performs preventive maintenance using work orders and relevant schematics and user manuals.
- Assists with other maintenance duties as assigned.
Requirements
- The ability to read and interpret all types of maintenance blueprints and specifications, use of shop mathematics.
- Utilize precision measuring instruments such as multimeters, voltmeters, clamp meters, power monitors, and other tools and gauges used to analyze and repair electrical components.
- Broad shop trade knowledge of electronic and electro-mechanical industrial equipment control systems, including a good knowledge of the theory involved and an understanding of the equipment controlled by the systems.
- Use appropriate PPE, tools, and proper clothing requirements when working on and around Electrical panels and components, demonstrating a commitment to following safe procedures and adhering to safe repair practices.
- A willingness and ability to instruct and assist less experienced electricians and electrical mechanics.
- A physically demanding role with exposure to loud noises, potential hazards, and often dirty environments, requiring the use of protective gear, frequent standing, lifting heavy parts, and working in tight spaces.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma/GED equivalent
- Minimum of 3-5 years of related work experience
Preferred Characteristics
- Hands-on experience with Siemens and FANUC NC, PLC, and HMI systems, experience with Ladder Logic
- Prior use of AutoCad Electronics toolbar for schematic creation
- Experience performing Electrical work in a large industrial setting
- Four (4) years of hands-on experience with electrical control components for Automation and Numerical Control equipment
- Ability to run laser trackers for multi-axis machine alignment
- Strong communication and team building skills with experience supporting and modifying controls and alignments of Multi axis drilling equipment, and large CNC milling machine
- Understanding working knowledge of autoclave controls and process on both electric and gas fired units
- A Journeyman’s Electricians license that is current with the State of Maryland
