About the role

The Material Expeditor works closely with customers at the National Institute of Standards and Technology and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration in arranging domestic and foreign shipments to and from Boulder, coordinating with third-party shipping providers. This includes shipping to and from this facility to other facilities, as well as unrelated facilities. The role requires proficiency with power tools such as drills, saws, and various hand tools, and experience working with lumber to construct custom crates and pallets for safe shipment of scientific equipment and samples.

Responsibilities

  • Communicate with clients to prepare shipments.
  • Package shipments appropriately, including Hazmat-related shipments.
  • Construct crates, boxes, and modify pallets.
  • Prepare shipping paperwork.
  • Face-to-face, email, and phone communication directly with customers.
  • Assist Material Handler and warehouse staff as needed.
  • Cover Warehouse front counter as needed.
  • Perform other responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED (required).
  • General knowledge of shipping functions (preferred).
  • Hazardous Material & Dangerous Goods training & certification (preferred).
  • General ability to use tools, saws, nail guns, etc., for building crates or shipment preparation (required).
  • Forklift training (required).
  • Truck driving ability (required).

Skills

  • Ability to communicate well by phone or email.
  • Moderate to good computer skills.
  • Attention to detail, especially with forms and paperwork.
  • Ability to juggle and prioritize multiple shipment requests while meeting deadlines.
  • Ability to complete shipments quickly due to frequent “rush” requests.
  • Strong teamwork, particularly with the Receiving crew.

Physical Demands

The employee is regularly required to stand; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. Occasionally required to walk and sit. May lift or move products and supplies up to 75 pounds. Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

Pay

$30.64 per hour.
