About the role

Hybrid Goodheart-Willcox Publisher, a leading expert in Career and Technical Education (CTE), seeks a Managing Editor K-12 with expertise in Business, Career, Computing, Social Sciences, and related fields. This role collaborates with the editorial director and acquisitions editors to lead editorial developmental planning and execution for the company's products.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the acquisition team to develop and implement list and product strategies and plans at a title level, including planning revision cycles and aligning development efforts with product market potential.
  • Oversee all aspects of planning and development for first edition and revised products on the team, including conducting market reviews on chapters, managing author interactions, finding qualified reviewers, coordinating with the Creative Department, and ensuring timely product scheduling milestones.
  • Support and facilitate market research to stay informed of industry trends, customer needs, and competitive product strengths and weaknesses.
  • Coordinate and manage development team efforts to identify and engage qualified authors and subject matter experts for creating and developing new products and supplementary materials.
  • Conduct teacher training workshops to educate stakeholders about product design or provide professional development.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s Degree preferred.
  • Minimum of three years of textbook development experience, including editorial and production phases.
  • Minimum of three years prior people management experience.
  • Education, training, or experience in topics relevant to the team's product line.
  • Excellent knowledge of basic language skills necessary for editing tasks.
  • Teaching experience or relevant coursework in educational instruction or team-focused disciplines.
  • Strong teamwork, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Windows and Word.

Qualifications

  • Experience in educational publishing and supervising developmental assignments.
  • Background in business, career, computing, social sciences, and other disciplines.
  • Ability to work in a hybrid model, consisting of working onsite 2-4 days per month at our Tinley Park, Illinois office.

Pay

The starting salary for this position is between $80,000 and $100,000 per year, with a 10% contribution to the ESOP and a 4% matching contribution to the 401(k).

Schedule

This is a hybrid position, requiring the Managing Editor to work onsite 2-4 days per month at our Tinley Park, Illinois office.
