About the role
As Operations Manager, you will direct and coordinate activities of production department(s) in processing materials or manufacturing products, either personally or through subordinate supervisors.
Responsibilities
- Manage supervisors to control the activities of production personnel, machine mechanics, and material handlers to meet customer requirements for quality, quantity, and ship date.
- Establish production schedules and ensure required documentation is approved and available to production and quality assurance personnel.
- Ensure the assigned area is adequately staffed; manage inventories, resources, and supplies to control productivity, quality, timely delivery, and production costs.
- Ensure all products packaged conform to customer and company specifications and standards.
- Plan department operations by reviewing production orders and/or schedules to ascertain product types, quantities, and specifications.
- Establish manufacturing priorities and sequences for the product packaging operation to meet scheduled delivery dates and weekly production schedules.
- Conduct weekly tours of the production area with supervisors to review production and quality data, and discuss production issues with personnel.
- Reinforce desired behaviors and activities of subordinates to improve productivity, quality, on-time delivery, safety, and production costs.
- Investigate and resolve operational, manufacturing, maintenance, and quality discrepancies; compose investigation reports to correct problems and prevent reoccurrences with minimal costs and delays.
- Review and provide constructive criticism of investigation reports from other management personnel and subordinates.
- Lead production supervisors, operators, mechanics, material handlers, and quality assurance personnel to resolve production problems.
- Collaborate with other production managers and departments to improve production methods, equipment performance, and product quality.
- Set pinpointed objectives for each subordinate and apply performance metrics to track progress toward meeting or exceeding these objectives.
- Deliver positive reinforcement for achieving desired results and appropriate corrective consequences for failing to meet performance standards.
- Inspect and evaluate production equipment and machinery to ensure production readiness and optimum utilization.
- Retrieve, compile, and evaluate production data to identify opportunities for improvement and assess equipment and labor efficiency and utilization.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Manage 5–15 subordinate supervisors who supervise a total of 10–100 employees in the Production Departments.
- Responsible for overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of this unit.
- Directly supervise 1–5 non-supervisory employees.
- Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws, including interviewing, hiring, training, planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; and addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university in a technical discipline; or
- Minimum of five years related experience in an FDA Medical/Pharmaceutical regulated industry and/or training; or
- Equivalent combination of education and experience.
