The salary range listed is a base salary. Applicants eligible for years-of-service adjustments or shift differentials may exceed this range. This position is located at Castlewood State Park, 1401 Kiefer Creek Road, Ballwin, MO 63021.

Responsibilities

• Semi-skilled work in facility maintenance, grounds maintenance, construction and repair of buildings and trail systems, and routine cleaning of structures and grounds, occasionally assisting in the operation of water/wastewater systems.
• Assist with assigning tasks to and reviewing work of seasonal maintenance staff.
• Direct and perform facility maintenance and upkeep according to facility plans, including vehicle and equipment maintenance, routine preventive maintenance, grounds keeping, buildings and structures maintenance, infrastructure, and tree trimming.
• Perform some vehicle and equipment repairs on site.
• Purchase operating supplies, parts, and project materials as necessary; follow all procurement rules and procedures.
• Communicate openly and effectively with the public, external stakeholders, supervisors, and subordinates.
• Assist with stewardship of resources, both natural and cultural. Participate in controlled burns, invasive plant removal, and other resource management projects.
• Maintain vegetation on site, including researching, planting, weeding, watering, and harvesting.
• Participate in off-site controlled burns at other parks to meet region or statewide management goals.
• Maintain a working knowledge of park rules, regulations, procedures, and policies.
• Attend mandatory and other trainings, including overnight stays, to learn new or enhance existing skills.
• Obtain and maintain water/wastewater certifications and/or other required licenses/certifications within twelve months if required.

Requirements

• Equivalent to one to three years of experience in a variety of trade areas including electrical, plumbing, carpentry, concrete and masonry, painting, plastering, and mechanical repair. Additional education or experience may substitute for the required education or experience.
• Possess and maintain a valid vehicle operator’s license.
• Perform strenuous physical outdoor work, including:
  • Walking on uneven terrain for extended periods.
  • Performing duties in rugged terrain.
  • Lifting and loading 50 to 75-pound objects repeatedly.
  • Walking and working on roofs.
  • Operating equipment such as mowers, tractors, trimmers, backpack blowers for extended timeframes.
  • Climbing ladders.
• Ability to work some weekends, evenings, and holidays.
• Obtain Fire Certification, S-190 or MDC Level 1, within the first 12 months of employment.

Schedule

Standard work shift is 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. but will vary according to facility demands. Includes working at least one weekend per month and various holidays and evenings. This position may also require assisting at other state parks as needed.
