About the Department

The California Department of Social Services (CDSS) serves, aids, and protects disadvantaged and vulnerable children and adults in ways that strengthen and preserve families, encourage personal responsibility, and foster independence. The Community Care Licensing Division promotes the health, safety, and quality of life of each person in community care through an effective, collaborative regulatory enforcement system. The Child Care Program ensures the health and safety of children in care by monitoring facilities, providing technical assistance, and establishing partnerships with providers, parents, and the child care community.

Responsibilities

• Conduct on-site inspections, investigate complaints, and evaluate licensed and unlicensed child care facilities to ensure compliance with health and safety standards.
• Review applications, verify qualifications, and provide technical assistance to applicants and licensees.
• Collaborate with applicants and licensees to correct deficiencies and maintain compliance.
• Lead orientations, analyze policies and regulations, and prepare detailed reports and recommendations.
• Support administrative actions such as license approvals, denials, and revocations.
• Participate in legal processes when necessary and contribute to program development.
• Engage in ongoing training and support special projects and outreach efforts.

Requirements

• This position is designated under the Conflict of Interest Code and is subject to fingerprinting clearance by the Department of Justice.

• Candidates residing outside California may interview but must provide proof of California residency before appointment.

Pay

• Classification A: $3,938.00 - $5,090.00 monthly
• Classification B: $4,262.00 - $5,561.00 monthly
• Classification C: $5,111.00 - $6,692.00 monthly
• Classification D: $5,598.00 - $7,351.00 monthly

Schedule

This is a full-time, 12-month limited-term position with the possibility of extension to 24 months or conversion to permanent status based on operational needs. In-office work is required.
