Job Summary
The Lead Medical Assistant provides individualized, direct patient care of patients under the supervision of a physician. The role involves assisting in the implementation of health care services, supporting fellow employees in providing high-quality personalized patient care, and maintaining a positive work relationship with the health care team.
Responsibilities
- Administers medications only under the direction, supervision and control of the physician.
- Electronic Medical Record (EMR) order entry for medication, laboratory or radiology may be completed when physician delegated.
- Takes vital signs, assists patients to room, and assists the nurses, physicians, students and residents in the clinical area.
- Maintains competency through continuing education and exhibits accuracy, integrity, and flexibility to work multiple outpatient areas.
- Works flexibly including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Adheres to UTMC Customer Service & iCare values and completes clinic specific competencies.
Requirements
- Medical Assisting Diploma, Degree, or Certificate is required.
- Current CMA/RMA certification or Ohio LPN license validated through primary source verification is required.
- American Heart Association Heartsaver CPR certification is required for MAs.
- American Heart Association Health Care Provider BLS certification is required for LPNs.
- Previous Ambulatory Care medical assisting or nursing experience is preferred.
- Punctuality and dependability are essential.
- Successfully completes clinic specific competencies.
Qualifications
- Education: Medical Assisting Diploma, Degree, or Certificate is required.
- Licensing: Current CMA/RMA certification or Ohio LPN license validated through primary source verification is required.
- Certification: American Heart Association Heartsaver CPR certification is required for MAs.
- Experience: Previous Ambulatory Care medical assisting or nursing experience is preferred.
Skills
- Documentation: Document care legibly in hand written text.
- EMR: Navigate through the EMR and record required data accurately and efficiently.
- Communication: Communicate and collaborate with team members including but not limited to physicians, nurses, managers, other MAs and other team members.
