Job Summary
The Lead Medical Assistant works under the guidance of the Clinic Supervisor to assist with maintaining efficient patient flow and quality care during clinic and on-site hours. This position acts as a liaison between the clinic supervisor and the staff. Responsibilities include training new staff and yearly certification, recognizing ethical and legal responsibilities, performing a variety of clinical procedures and administrative duties, supervising staff in the absence of the clinic supervisor, and supporting injury care and on-site services.Responsibilities
- Provide backup support to the medical assistant team, including all functions of a medical assistant.
- Aid with clinic scheduling, problem-solving, managing patient wait times, and addressing other areas to enhance efficiency and quality services.
- Review charts, lab test results, and required forms for completeness and to ensure follow-up as needed.
- Oversee medical supplies inventory and perform preventive maintenance to keep medical equipment operational, including sterilizing medical instruments and supplies.
- Support injury care and provide on-site services.
- Collaborate with the clinic supervisor and staff on programs to improve client outcomes.
- Serve as a temporary clinic supervisor when the clinic supervisor is absent.
- Perform phlebotomy services and give injections.
- Maintain a safe, secure, and healthy work environment by adhering to established standards and procedures and complying with legal regulations.
- Keep equipment operational by following operating instructions, troubleshooting breakdowns, maintaining supplies, and verifying receipt of medical supplies.
- Stay updated on job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities and reading professional publications.
- Enhance the practice’s reputation by accepting ownership for job accomplishments and exploring opportunities to add value.
- Assist with performance reviews.
- May be required to work overtime, weekends, and holidays.
- Attendance and punctuality are essential.
- May be required to travel.
- Must have dependable transportation.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications/Skills
- At least 5 years of experience in a clinic setting.
- Professionalism, confidentiality, excellent communication skills, maintaining client and staff confidentiality, passing a DISA Drug Screen and Background check.
- Phlebotomy certification.
Education, Experience, and Licensing Requirements
- Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) or Medical Assistant Certification required.
- Minimum of five years of experience in a medical clinic.
- Knowledgeable of and maintaining HIPAA standards of privacy and confidentiality.
Physical Demands
- Sitting or standing for prolonged periods of time.
- Lift, carry, push, pull, or move objects up to 75 pounds.
- Repetitive motion.
- Extensive use of computers, copy machines, and keyboards.
- Substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
- Close visual acuity for preparing and analyzing data and figures, transcribing, viewing a computer terminal, and extensive reading.
- Work in a medical clinic setting requiring the ability to operate standard office equipment and keyboards.
- Must have the ability to lift and carry parcels, packages, and other items, walk short distances, and drive a vehicle to deliver and pick up materials.
