About the Role
The Colorado Judicial Department seeks a Judicial Clerk to perform advanced case management, provide oversight and mentorship to newer staff, and support judicial officers and court operations. This position is part of a progressive job series (Judicial Clerk I, II, or III), with placement determined by qualifications and relevant experience. The role involves handling complex case types, conducting special projects, and serving as a subject matter expert for court procedures and case-related inquiries.
Responsibilities
- Provides comprehensive case management, customer service, and judicial officer support for clients, staff, and external agencies in person, via phone, or email.
- Instructs customers on case types, procedures, and applicable information for law enforcement, attorneys, and other agencies.
- Serves as a subject matter expert, conducting in-depth research to resolve complex case-related questions and technical issues.
- Monitors and evaluates workload influx, backlog, and priorities, taking proactive measures to redistribute work and meet deadlines.
- Acts as a primary point of contact for other units, internal departments, trial courts, and external agencies to resolve or escalate issues.
- Maintains unit calendars, schedules court dates, and supports case and docket management by preparing, publishing, and distributing daily court dockets.
- Develops and implements processes and procedures in response to new legislation or changes in local practices, including reviewing and disseminating updates to best practices and forms.
- Creates and maintains unit resources such as manuals, processes, checklists, contact lists, and shared templates.
- Mentors employees, leads training initiatives, and participates in cross-training to support courtrooms and dockets across the district.
- Monitors work product quality, identifies training needs, and provides technical correction or instruction to staff.
- Coordinates and facilitates meetings, including collecting agenda items, distributing documents, and publishing minutes.
- May oversee work quality, training, and assignments for other employees, providing guidance and instruction.
- Performs other duties as assigned, including cross-functional tasks and coverage for Judicial Clerk functions.
Requirements
- High school diploma or G.E.D.
- At least five (5) years of experience as a Judicial Clerk II or Court Judicial Assistant for the Colorado Judicial Department, or five (5) years of relevant work experience in a similar role.

Work Environment
- Primarily office-based or indoor court environment.
- Exposures may include individuals with violent backgrounds, hostile or irate individuals, and communicable diseases.
- Sedentary work involving occasional exertion of up to 10 pounds of force (e.g., lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling objects).
