Full-time, non-exempt position with a salary range of $47,999.28 - $69,599.16. This is a term-limited role expected to last approximately 12 months, supporting specific operational needs and project-based work.

About the Role

The Judicial Department works to provide equal access to justice, contribute to public safety, and strengthen the rule of law across Colorado. This role performs skilled administrative, customer service, and technical support related to court operations, including docket management, courtroom duties, and case processing. The position is part of a progressive job series (Judicial Clerk I, II, or III), with placement determined by qualifications and relevant experience.

Responsibilities

  • Provides case management, customer service, and judicial officer support for clients, officers, and staff in-person, via phone, and email, including filing, scanning, and uploading documents.
  • Instructs customers on case types and procedures; shares information with law enforcement, attorneys, and other agencies.
  • Responds to inquiries, acts as a liaison between the court and customers, de-escalates conflicts, and explains court processes without providing legal advice.
  • Manages electronic and paper-filed case documentation, including tracking case status, processing exhibits, plea agreements, sentencing, restitution, fees, notices, court orders, bonds, warrants, and protection orders.
  • Maintains the case management system, updates case status, prepares cases for court assignments, and issues complex court orders.
  • Processes payments, reconciles cash drawers, and prepares daily deposits.
  • Provides direct support to judicial officers, including drafting court orders, maintaining calendars, and composing correspondence.
  • Processes opinion issuance, including reviewing submissions, maintaining weekly announcements, editing captions, and updating the case management system.
  • Performs courtroom management, including preparing dockets, ensuring courtroom cleanliness, directing parties, and managing case flow.
  • Assists with courtroom audio/visual systems, recording, and virtual conferencing to ensure accurate hearings.
  • Schedules interpreters as needed and participates in cross-training to support multiple courtrooms and dockets.
  • Occasionally directs helpers, assistants, or temporary employees.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or G.E.D.
  • At least 1 year of experience as a Judicial Clerk I or Court Judicial Assistant for the Colorado Judicial Department, or 1 year of relevant work experience in a similar role.

Work Environment

  • Sedentary work involving sitting most of the time, with occasional lifting of up to 10 pounds.
  • Office or indoor environment with minimal exposure to unpleasant conditions or hazards.
  • Interactions with individuals who may be hostile, irate, or have violent backgrounds.
