Job Title: Access Consultant

Purdue University is seeking an Access Consultant to join the Disability Resource Center (DRC). This role reports to the Deputy Director and focuses on developing accommodations, supporting students with disabilities, and collaborating with campus partners.

About the Disability Resource Center (DRC)

Purdue’s DRC operates in a highly collaborative environment, ensuring access to all university functions and facilities. The office is housed in recently renovated spaces designed to support staff growth. Purdue leadership actively supports the DRC’s mission, providing resources to address the needs of a growing student population. The DRC emphasizes access as a shared responsibility across the university.

Responsibilities

  • Meet with students seeking disability-related accommodations.
  • Develop reasonable and appropriate accommodations for academic, housing, dining, and parking needs.
  • Apply knowledge of disability law (Section 504, 508, and ADAA).
  • Maintain accurate student records and notes to ensure consistency and data collection.
  • Oversee a caseload of over 500 students.
  • Collaborate with campus and community partners, including faculty, staff, parents, and others.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in education, student affairs, disability studies, counseling, or an equivalent field.
  • Two (2) years of experience in higher education or professional disability-related experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge, training, or experience in State and Federal disability laws applicable to higher education.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including collaboration, conflict resolution, time management, reliability, adaptability, and a strong work ethic.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Suite products and willingness to learn other computer applications.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in education, student affairs, disability studies, counseling, or an equivalent field.
  • Experience working with students with disabilities in a higher education setting.
  • Experience conducting the interactive process to determine access issues and appropriate adjustments in higher education.

  • FLSA: Exempt (Not Eligible For Overtime).
