IT Infrastructure Youth Apprentice

About the role

The Youth Apprenticeship role at U.S. Venture is a 1 or 2-year program that gives juniors and seniors in high school the chance to explore a career area of interest. Students spend part of their school day earning credit while they gain industry experience under the guidance of a mentor. Every effort is made to design a Youth Apprentice assignment that matches the student’s interests, provides meaningful work and a valuable learning experience, as well as to align to the associated State’s Youth Apprentice guidelines for skills the student will need to acquire. Youth Apprentices may be assigned to one area or rotated through several divisions/departments.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with IT staff to resolve technical incidents or fulfill service requests; learn to troubleshoot and address common IT issues.
• Perform installations and configurations of hardware, including setting up user devices, AV equipment, and ensuring they connect to the network and Wi-Fi.
• Maintain accurate records of IT tasks performed, incidents resolved, and service requests fulfilled.
• Diagnose and resolve network connectivity issues, including checking cables, switches, and routers, and understanding IP addressing.
• Provide basic user support such as password resets, account setups, and software support guidance; train users on new tools or features.
• Assist in IT projects as opportunities arise, such as implementing new technologies.
• Learn to manage Microsoft Exchange servers and services, including creating and managing user mailboxes, configuring email distribution groups, setting up shared calendars, and troubleshooting email-related issues.

Qualifications

• Student in junior or senior standing in high school.
• Completion of an IT-related class strongly preferred along with technical aptitude.
• Able to begin a Youth Apprenticeship in fall 2026.
• Ability to work on-site in downtown Appleton, at least 10 hours per week during normal business hours during the school year.
