About the Role
This position will facilitate the work of the Executive Director of University Events and the Office of University Events by providing administrative support and office management. The role supports the departmental objective to preserve and carry out University traditions and ceremony and to engender institutional and financial support by producing first-rate events, programs, special projects, and communications that reflect the mission, goals, and values of Christopher Newport University.
Responsibilities
- Answer office telephone lines, take messages, and respond to inquiries
- Maintain communications through office email accounts
- Maintain R.S.V.P. lists
- Pay invoices and procure goods and services
- Complete department staff purchase card reconciliations
- Maintain financial records
- Manage all office records and accounts
- Manage inventory and supplies
- Assist at events as needed
- Occasionally work early mornings, evenings, and weekends to supplement professional event staff on an ad hoc basis
- Occasionally procure items off campus
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent education/experience
- Valid Driver’s License
- Ability to obtain University golf cart/mini-bus driving certifications
- Experience with spreadsheets and word processing
- Experience with bookkeeping
- Experience processing invoices and purchase requisitions
- Experience overseeing day-to-day administrative operations in an office setting
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate’s Degree
- Coursework in business administration or related field
- Experience with eVA procurement system
- Experience with multiple phone lines, email accounts, and/or managing web content
- Experience with bulk mailings
- Experience managing complex schedules

Pay
$42,560 to $53,200
