Internal Medicine Veterinary Technician
About the role
VCA Aurora Animal Hospital is seeking a Certified Veterinary Technician to join its team in expanding its Internal Medicine service. Full-time positions are available, offering 4 ten-hour shifts per week on weekdays. Compensation ranges from $23 to $35 per hour, with the starting range determined by license, skill set, and experience.
Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality nursing care to internal medicine patients, including those with complex and chronic conditions.
- Aid veterinarians with advanced diagnostics and procedures such as ultrasound, endoscopy, bronchoscopy, CT, MRI, and minimally invasive procedures.
- Safely and effectively place, maintain, and monitor intravenous catheters, central lines, feeding tubes, and urinary catheters.
- Perform and interpret laboratory testing, including blood gas analysis, urinalysis, cytology preparation, and in-house diagnostics.
- Administer medications, IV fluids, blood products, and nutritional support as prescribed.
- Maintain accurate and thorough medical records and treatment sheets.
- Educate and communicate effectively with clients regarding diagnostics, treatments, discharge instructions, and at-home care.
- Collaborate closely with veterinarians, specialty teams, and support staff to ensure seamless patient care.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized treatment and procedure area in accordance with hospital protocols and safety standards.
- Participate in ongoing training, mentorship, and professional development.
Requirements
To be considered, applicants must hold a valid state license as a Veterinary Technician and possess a minimum of 2 years of experience in a clinical setting. Experience in Internal Medicine is preferred but not required. Excellent communication skills and the ability to work independently are essential.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent is required. Associate's degree in Veterinary Technology is preferred. Completion of a recognized veterinary technician program is required.
Skills
Strong knowledge of veterinary pharmacology, anatomy, physiology, and pathology. Proficiency in using diagnostic equipment and software. Ability to work well under pressure and manage multiple tasks simultaneously. Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
