About the Role
The Director is accountable to the Associate Vice-President, Continuing Education for the effective leadership, implementation, and management of Saskatchewan Polytechnic Continuing Education initiatives. This includes implementing policies, guidelines, processes, and practices that govern all aspects of Saskatchewan Polytechnic Continuing Education.

The Centre for Continuing Education brings together internal expertise to advance professional development programs, corporate training, and micro-credential offerings. Courses are market-driven and consistently updated to reflect emerging trends and best practices.
Responsibilities
- Provide direct supervision and support to a team of Continuing Education Consultants in implementing program and course delivery, maximizing responsiveness to funded and revenue-generating initiatives while ensuring regional planning, optimal student accessibility, and effective funding utilization.
- Maintain key relationships with the Ministry of Immigration and Career Training, ESDC, and other government departments, as well as deans, faculty, and staff to ensure participation in private or government-funded initiatives.
- Ensure the quality of Continuing Education activities by collaboratively developing, implementing, and monitoring sound policies, processes, guidelines, and procedures.
- Oversee the strategic direction, business modeling, calendar development, budget, and analysis of the center’s initiatives.
- Provide business analytics through methodical exploration of data, emphasizing statistical analysis related to performance.
- Develop and coordinate elements of the Multi-Year Business Plan and assist with implementing actions, obtaining budget funds, and supporting institutional goals.
- Maintain currency with instructional methods, educational technologies, trends in continuing education, and address issues effectively.
- Contribute to the Centre’s operational effectiveness and policy development through active participation in strategic and operational decisions.
- Identify training needs within Saskatchewan Polytechnic’s geographical regions and facilitate appropriate responses.
- Manage within the provisions of collective bargaining agreements and apply them appropriately.
- Develop and direct the implementation of strategic goals and objectives for Continuing Education initiatives through collaboration with management, academic, and professional services staff.
- Provide tracking and analysis related to budgets, revenue generation, and brokerage needs and delivery.
- Facilitate effective training, development, and motivation of Continuing Education employees to maintain high performance.
- Research education and skills training needs and professional development opportunities for faculty and staff.
- Create and grow external partnerships and manage relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including government organizations, regional colleges, and funding agents.
- Represent Saskatchewan Polytechnic on national, provincial, departmental, and regional committees as required.
- Manage human resources through the employee life cycle, fostering productivity, job satisfaction, and professional growth.
- Establish clear performance standards and goals for direct reports and hold them accountable.
- Address people management issues, including discipline, dismissal, or termination, ensuring compliance with collective agreements and policies.
- Promote communication, diversity, and inclusion across all organizational levels.
- Work with Human Resources to recruit and retain outstanding staff aligned with Saskatchewan Polytechnic’s values: respect, integrity, sustainability, and excellence.
- Identify and set business plans for revenue generation opportunities, monitoring results and value for services offered.
- Develop innovative solutions to resource challenges while ensuring alignment with institutional strategic goals.
- Manage the center’s budgets and faculty and staff workload to ensure efficient use of resources.
- Identify, assess, and manage risks in planning processes and across the organization.
- Ensure accountability, transparency, and compliance with federal and provincial laws, regulations, and policies.
- Provide monthly and ad-hoc reports to the AVP, Continuing Education as required.
Requirements
- Relevant Bachelor’s degree (e.g., business or education) and a minimum of 5 years of experience within a post-secondary institution.
- Extensive demonstrated experience in business development and/or grant writing.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
- Completion of a Master’s degree and experience in management and continuing education is considered an asset.
- Ability to travel regularly within Saskatchewan and occasionally out of province.
