About the role

The Instrument Technician installs, tests, calibrates, troubleshoots, overhauls, and repairs electrical, controlling, indicating, and measuring instrument devices to ensure specified operating performance. The role requires reading manuals, wiring or instrumentation schematics, and testing specifications, as well as troubleshooting electric motors and installing wiring to circuits. Knowledge of electrical schematics and PLCs is required. Other duties may be assigned.

Responsibilities

• Layout, fabricate, and install tubing and tub trays.
• Apply mathematical concepts (ratios, proportions, powers of 10, algebra, unit conversions) to instrumentation calculations.
• Read blueprints, schematics, and loop drawings; prepare job reports.
• Assemble and disassemble electronic process controls, pneumatic controls, and hydraulic systems and components.
• Calibrate equipment using standard procedures; locate and apply additional calibration references as needed.
• Understand and control pH and redox measurements for liquids.
• Apply Ohm’s Law, Kirchhoff’s Law, and work with diodes, capacitors, and other electrical components.
• Understand steam properties and behavior under various conditions.
• Apply chemistry and physics principles (specific gravity, density, mechanical advantage, melting/freezing/boiling points, etc.) in instrumentation tasks.
• Troubleshoot and test electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems with appropriate equipment.
• Interpret fundamental instrumentation loops and the function of each component within them.
• Recognize common chemical plant process equipment such as distillation columns, heat exchangers, boilers, turbines, and compressors.
• Measure pressure, flow, temperature, weight, density, heat flux, humidity, and moisture using established procedures.
• Maintain a current electrician’s license or identification card to meet state regulations.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Education: No minimum education requirement.
• Experience: Minimum 4 years of journeyman‑level experience.
• Certifications/Licenses: NCCER certification, a valid TWIC card, and a driver’s license.
• Legal authorization to work for any employer in the United States; the company does not sponsor employment visas.

• Willingness to work in industrial and construction settings with exposure to weather extremes, noise, dust, fumes, moving equipment, vibration, and other site‑specific hazards.
