Responsibilities

  • Install, test, calibrate, troubleshoot, overhaul, and repair electrical, controlling, indicating, and measuring instrument devices to ensure specified operating performance using hand tools, testing and calibrating instruments, and precision measuring instruments.
  • Read and understand manuals, wiring or instrumentation schematics, and testing specifications.
  • Troubleshoot electric motors, install wiring to circuits, and work with electrical schematics and PLCs.
  • Layout, fabricate, and install tubing and tub trays.
  • Apply knowledge of mathematics to instrumentation, including ratio and proportions, powers of 10, algebra equations, English-to-metric conversion, and pressure unit conversions (e.g., inches of water to PSI, inches of mercury to PSI).
  • Read blueprints, schematics, and loop drawings; prepare job reports.
  • Assemble and disassemble electronic process controls, pneumatic controls, and hydraulic systems and components.
  • Calibrate equipment using common calibration procedures; read, interpret, and apply procedures.
  • Understand principles of pH and redox, including measurement and control of pH and redox in liquids.
  • Work with Ohm’s Law, Kirchhoff’s Law, diodes, capacitors, and other electrical components.
  • Understand steam properties and reactions (e.g., saturation properties).
  • Apply principles of chemistry and physics in instrumentation, such as specific gravity, density, mechanical advantages, proportions of liquids, melting/freezing/boiling points.
  • Troubleshoot and check out electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems using proper test equipment.
  • Understand fundamental instrumentation loops, including the function of each component in the loop.
  • Understand common chemical plant process equipment (e.g., distillation columns, heat exchangers, boilers, turbines, compressors).
  • Apply procedures for measuring pressure, level, flow, temperature, weight, density, heat flux, humidity, and moisture.
  • Maintain a current electrician's license or identification card to meet state regulations.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • 4 years of Journeyman-level experience.
  • Certification/License: NCCER, TDLR, and Driver’s License.
  • Legally authorized to work for ANY employer in the United States (Austin Industrial is unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship for this position).

Physical, Mental & Environmental Requirements

  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, and use hands and fingers to perform assigned duties.
  • Lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 pounds; work at elevations, on uneven surfaces, or in confined spaces.
  • Sufficient visual, hearing, communication, and motor skills to safely perform job responsibilities.
  • Ability to read, comprehend, and follow safety procedures, work instructions, and company policies; exercise sound judgment; solve problems; maintain attention to detail; manage stress; and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Work in industrial and construction environments with exposure to weather conditions, temperature extremes, noise, dust, fumes, moving equipment, vibration, and other site-specific hazards.
  • Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) and meet all customer, site, regulatory, medical, and fitness-for-duty requirements.
  • Perform all job duties while maintaining a constant commitment to safety, quality, and productivity expectations.
