Instrument Technician - Austin Industrial (Deer Park, Tx)

About the role

Austin Industrial provides premier self-perform maintenance, construction, and soft craft service to leading industrial companies across the U.S. As an Instrument Technician, you will install, test, calibrate, troubleshoot, overhaul, and repair electrical, controlling, indicating, and measuring instrument devices to ensure specified operating performance using hand tools, testing and calibrating instruments, and precision measuring instruments.

Responsibilities

• Layout, fabricate, and install tubing and tub trays.
• Apply knowledge of mathematics to instrumentation, including ratio and proportions, powers of 10, algebra equations, English-to-metric conversion, and pressure unit conversions (e.g., inches of water to PSI, inches of mercury to PSI).
• Read blueprints, schematics, and loop drawings and prepare job reports.
• Assemble and disassemble electronic process controls, pneumatic controls, and hydraulic systems and components.
• Calibrate equipment using common calibration procedures and interpret, apply, and locate additional procedures as needed.
• Understand principles of pH and redox, including equipment for measurement and control of pH/redox in liquids.
• Work with Ohm’s Law, Kirchhoff’s Law, diodes, capacitors, and other electrical components.
• Understand steam properties and reactions, such as saturation properties.
• Apply principles of chemistry and physics in instrumentation, including specific gravity, density, mechanical advantages, proportions of liquids, melting/freezing/boiling points.
• Troubleshoot and check out electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems using proper test equipment.
• Understand fundamental instrumentation loops, including the function of each component in various loop types.
• Understand common chemical plant process equipment such as distillation columns, heat exchangers, boilers, turbines, and compressors.
• Measure pressure, level, flow, temperature, weight, density, heat flux, humidity, and moisture.
• Maintain a current electrician's license or identification card to meet state regulations.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• 4 years of Journeyman-level experience.
• NCCER certification, a valid TWIC Card, and a Driver’s License.
• Legally authorized to work for any employer in the United States (Austin Industrial cannot sponsor this position).

Physical, Mental & Environmental Requirements

• Ability to sit, stand, walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, and use hands/fingers to perform assigned duties.
• May require lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to work at elevations, on uneven surfaces, or in confined spaces.
• Sufficient visual, hearing, communication, and motor skills to safely perform job responsibilities.
• Ability to read, comprehend, and follow safety procedures, work instructions, and company policies.
• Exercise sound judgment, solve problems, maintain attention to detail, manage stress, and adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Work in industrial and construction environments with exposure to weather conditions, temperature extremes, noise, dust, fumes, moving equipment, vibration, and other site-specific hazards.
• Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) and meet all customer, site, regulatory, medical, and fitness-for-duty requirements.
• Perform all job duties while maintaining a constant commitment to safety, quality, and productivity expectations.
