About the role
The Battle Creek VA Medical Center is currently recruiting for an Information Receptionist (Lodging Clerk) within Acute Hospital Clinical Service.
Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement - 07/28/2026. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS 4 position, you must have served 52 weeks at the GS 3. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials.
You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below:
- General Experience: 1-Year - Progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled and/or Education 2-years above high school.
- Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS 3 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: clerical or office work.
- Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level, you must have 2 years above high school.

Responsibilities
Incumbents will exercise excellent customer service, resourcefulness, initiative, and sound judgment in carrying out the following duties and responsibilities:
- Serving as a central point of contact to provide explanations of requirements, regulations, and procedures in the Lodging area
- Provides direction in the registration, clearances, and discharge process
- Maintaining calendars and coordinates reception of mail, and telephone calls to ensure a smooth flow of business.
- Initiates contact for medical and/or psychiatric emergencies
- Conducts tours of the lodging facility, and conducts safety rounds of the area
- Provides administrative support to lodgers
- Orders supplies and linens
- Provides support to assigned areas when there are no lodgers, according to limitations
- Performs other duties as assigned
Schedule
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 12:00 a.m- 8:00 a.m. Hours may be rotated or extended based on the needs of the Medical Center and our Veterans. This is not a virtual position.
