Human Resources Specialist (Employee Relations)

Responsibilities

  • Partner with managers and leadership to address employee concerns, foster a positive and inclusive workplace culture aligned with company values, and guide all aspects of performance management, including coaching, performance improvement plans (PIPs) and corrective action.
  • Respond to and manage employee complaints, allegations of policy violations, and concerns related to harassment, discrimination, and other workplace concerns.
  • Conduct timely, objective and thorough workplace investigations; document findings, maintain appropriate records, and recommend or support implementation of corrective or disciplinary action.
  • Aid in the development, updating and communicating HR policies and procedures.
  • Aid in the development and delivery of training presentations, both virtually or in person on various HR topics and guidance on company policies, procedures and employee relations best practices.
  • Ensure understanding of and compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.
  • Prepare documentation for legal proceedings, unemployment claims, and government agency inquiries (EEOC, DFEH, DOL, etc.).
  • Review and respond to unemployment claims; support regional management in preparing documentation and participation in unemployment hearings.
  • Work with payroll and benefits teams to resolve employee matters as needed.
  • Cook out and conduct exit interviews with departing employees.
  • Participate in audits, reporting and HR projects as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources or related field; equivalent experience (5+ years in HR) may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Proven experience conducting workplace investigations and handling sensitive employee matters with discretion, fairness and sound judgement.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills with strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience delivering training on HR topics such as policies, best practices and performance management.
  • Highly organized, detail oriented and able to consistently follow through on assignments.
  • Ability to work independently in fast-paced environment and manage sensitive situations while maintaining strict confidentiality.
  • Strong general computer proficiency, including skills with Microsoft Office business software (Word, PowerPoint, and Excel, TEAMS) and Internet research.
  • Solid understanding of employment laws and HR compliance requirements across multiple states.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license.
  • Willingness and ability to travel to multiple worksites across various states.
  • HR certification (PHR, SHRM-CP) strongly preferred.
