Primary Function
The Human Resources Relations Specialist will assist with employee relations and human resources matters, gathering, collecting, and maintaining documents and records required for policy development and investigations.
Specific Responsibilities
- Create partnerships with employees, supervisors, and managers to promote positive employee relations.
- Handle employment-related inquiries from employees, referring complex and/or sensitive matters to the appropriate staff.
- Serve as the initial contact and liaison for intake and assessment of employee complaints.
- Conduct initial interviews and gather information for employee relations matters such as harassment allegations, work complaints, or other concerns; inform HR management when additional investigation is required.
- Afford assistance in creating progressive discipline plans to monitor, review, and make suggestions for corrective actions for attendance, punctuality, conduct, and performance issues.
- Coach and advise employees regarding Employee Guide policies.
- Run disciplinary reports monthly and track on History Sheets.
- Afford assistance in creating supervisor/manager resources and assist with trainings as needed.
- Conduct surveys, interviews, and other research related to human resources policies; collect information and report results to HR management.
- Frequently travel to financial services centers and departments in all regions.
- Be knowledgeable of FMLA, WPFML, OFLA, PLO and any other employee leave laws.
- Maintain and update Investigation Process and Discipline Process when necessary.
- Perform routine tasks required to administer and execute human resources programs including but not limited to disciplinary matters, disputes and investigations, performance and talent management, productivity, recognition, and morale.
- Afford assistance in employee disciplinary meetings, terminations, and investigations.
- May perform administrative and record-keeping tasks related to staffing changes, which may include layoffs, resignations, and terminations.
- Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices; review policies and practices to maintain compliance.
- Maintain knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources and employment law.
- Review and approve employee performance check-ins for legal compliance and consistency prior to management presentation with employee.
- Cross-train in other positions in the department including but not limited to payroll, benefits, or leave.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Position Qualifications
- Specific Skills - Thorough understanding and proficiency in Microsoft 365 Suite required.

- Quality Control - The individual demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness and monitors own work to ensure quality.
- Dependability - The individual is consistently at work and on time (except for those cases protected by law which are outlined in the Employee Guide), follows instructions, responds to Management direction, and solicits feedback to improve performance.
- Observing Policies/Procedures - The individual sets an example in observing (following) Credit Union policies and applicable Standard Operating Procedures, as well as those in the Employee Guide.
- Image - The individual must display a positive and professional image.
- Travel - Must be able travel between financial services centers on a regular basis. Must have access to an automobile and a valid driver's license with a good driving record and adequate automobile-related insurance. Some overnight travel may be required.
Applicant Requirements
- Possess high school diploma or equivalent.
- Education/Experience: A bachelor's degree in human resources or related field is preferred but may be substituted with a minimum of two years' Human Resources experience.
- Must be bondable.

- Must possess and be adaptable to the following physical abilities and working conditions:
- Office work environment.
- Must be able to sit in front of a computer for extended periods of time.
- Must be able to stand for public events/presentations and run orientation/training programs.
- Move work-related equipment up to 20 pounds.
- Remain in a stationary position for long periods of time.
- Operate various technological devices, including but not limited to a computer.
- Occasionally ascend/descend stairs.
