About the role
We are looking for a detail-oriented Human Resources (HR) Assistant to support day-to-day recruiting and HR coordination for a Contract position based in Sterling, Virginia. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys keeping hiring activities organized, communicating with candidates, and assisting with core HR processes in a fast-paced construction environment. The selected candidate will play an important part in maintaining recruitment workflows, supporting onboarding steps, and helping the team stay on track with administrative priorities.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate recruiting activities by posting openings, identifying potential candidates, and helping maintain an active talent pipeline.
- Manage interview logistics by arranging schedules, confirming availability, and communicating details with candidates and hiring teams.
- Process pre-employment steps, including initiating and tracking background checks to support timely hiring decisions.
- Maintain accurate records within the UKG applicant tracking and HR systems, ensuring information is current and properly documented.
- Assist with onboarding administration by preparing required paperwork, tracking completion items, and supporting new employee readiness.
- Provide general HR administrative support, including updating employee records, organizing documentation, and responding to routine inquiries.
- Monitor hiring progress and follow up on open tasks to help move candidates efficiently through each stage of the recruitment process.
Requirements
- At least 3 years of experience in human resources support, recruiting coordination, or a related HR assistant role.
- Hands-on experience with HRIS platforms and applicant tracking systems, including UKG or similar tools.
- Working knowledge of recruiting processes such as job posting management, candidate sourcing, interview coordination, and background screening.
- Familiarity with onboarding activities and HR documentation practices.

- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and maintain accurate records.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills for interacting with candidates, hiring managers, and internal stakeholders.
- Proficiency with standard office software and general administrative tools used in HR environments.
