About the role

Butte Sand and Gravel in Sutter, CA is hiring a Human Resources Administrative Assistant. This is a full-time position offering full medical, dental, and vision benefits, a 401(k) plan with a generous match, paid holidays, paid time off, sick, and vacation after a qualifying waiting period.

Responsibilities

  • Provides administrative support to the Human Resources, Payroll, and Safety departments.
  • Affairs with employee onboarding, benefits administration, personnel records, payroll support, compliance documentation, and general administrative duties.
  • Onboards new employees and prepares new hire packets.
  • Maintains all personnel, safety, training, employee benefits, disciplinary, and, in the case of commercial truck drivers, USDOT drivers’ files.
  • Processes new hire, employment status change, and termination paperwork.
  • Affords assistance with employees' routine HR and benefit questions.
  • Maintains confidentiality of all employee information.
  • Establishes and maintains professional working relationships with all employees and managers.
  • Communicates company policies and procedures in a professional and positive manner.
  • Conducts periodic personnel file audits and maintains compliance documentation.
  • Prepares employment verification requests.
  • Affords assistance with Payroll runs as needed.
  • Maintains track of all employee benefit changes.
  • Audits benefit deductions from the carriers.
  • Tracks employee-training, certifications, and required documentation.
  • Processes and maintains all termination records including COBRA and employee benefits.
  • Schedules and tracks drug and alcohol testing, physicals, and required certifications.
  • Performs other administrative duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • One to three years of experience in Human Resources, Payroll, Employee Benefit Administration, or office experience preferred.
  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field preferred.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills, both written and in-person.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Excel in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple priorities.
  • Successfully pass pre-employment drug screening.
  • Must be dependable, trustworthy, and have a positive attitude.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
