Position Responsibilities

  • Perform comprehensive history and physical examinations for hospitalized adult patients
  • Evaluate, diagnose, and manage acute and chronic medical conditions in the inpatient setting
  • Develop and implement patient-centered treatment plans in collaboration with supervising physicians
  • Order, interpret, and monitor laboratory studies, imaging, and diagnostic testing
  • Maintain accurate and timely electronic medical documentation
  • Monitor patient progress and respond appropriately to changes in clinical condition
  • Prescribe and adjust medications in accordance with North Carolina regulations and DEA guidelines
  • Collaborate closely with hospitalists, nursing staff, consulting physicians, care management, and ancillary teams to coordinate care
  • Participate in interdisciplinary rounds and discharge planning
  • Facilitate communication with primary care providers and patient families regarding ongoing care needs
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and patient safety efforts
  • Maintain compliance with Joint Commission, HIPAA, OSHA, and organizational standards

Candidate Qualifications

  • Graduation from an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program required
  • Current North Carolina license or eligibility required
  • Current prescriptive authority and DEA licensure required
  • BLS and ACLS certifications required
  • Acute Care certification required for Nurse Practitioner candidates
  • Minimum of 1–2 years of inpatient, hospital medicine, internal medicine, emergency medicine, critical care, or related acute care experience preferred
  • Strong clinical judgment, critical thinking, and interpersonal communication skills required
  • Nurse Practitioner Candidates: Master’s Degree or Doctor of Nursing Practice required, Acute Care certification required, current RN and APRN licensure required, certification from a nationally recognized certifying body required (e.g., ACNP, AGACNP, AGNP, PNP, or PNP-AC)
  • Physician Assistant Candidates: Graduate from an accredited Physician Assistant program required, Master’s Degree preferred, NCCPA certification required
