Hospital Medicine Full-Time NP/PA
Position Details
Daytime work schedule: 7 on / 7 off, 7:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. Weekends and holidays included in rotation
100% inpatient adult medicine
Collaborate with physicians and the interdisciplinary healthcare team to provide high-quality, patient-centered inpatient care.
Experience Required
- Graduation from an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program.
- Nurse Practitioners must hold a Master’s Degree or Doctorate in Nursing Practice with Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (ACNP) or Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (AGACNP) board certification.
- Physician Assistants must hold certification from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA); CAQ certification preferred.
- Current license to practice as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant in North Carolina.
- Current prescriptive privileges and DEA registration.
Job Summary
Specialty Care Advanced Practice Providers provide concentrated services within a designated specialty, caring for both acute and chronically ill patients. This role is responsible for delivering comprehensive inpatient care through assessment, diagnosis, treatment, care coordination, and discharge planning while collaborating with physicians and the interdisciplinary healthcare team.
Essential Functions
- Perform initial and follow-up medical histories and physical examinations.
- Conduct daily inpatient assessments and ongoing patient management.
- Evaluate, admit, consult, and manage hospitalized adult medicine patients.
- Develop and implement treatment plans in collaboration with supervising physicians.
- Order, interpret, and manage laboratory, radiology, and other diagnostic studies.
- Prescribe medications and therapeutic interventions within scope of practice.
- Perform minor medical procedures as appropriate and within credentialing guidelines.
- Cookbook patient care with physicians, nursing, pharmacy, case management, specialists, and ancillary departments.
- Participate in multidisciplinary rounds and discharge planning activities.
- Document all patient encounters, assessments, procedures, and treatment plans accurately and timely in the electronic medical record.
- Serve as a patient advocate while promoting quality, safety, and evidence-based care.
- Attend and participate in departmental meetings, quality improvement initiatives, and continuing education opportunities.
Physical Requirements
- Frequent walking, standing, sitting, lifting, reaching, bending, stooping, pushing, and pulling.
- Must be able to lift and support up to 35 pounds while assisting with patients, medical equipment, and supplies.
- Must possess intact senses of sight, hearing, smell, touch, and finger dexterity.
- Must communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
- Must be able to perform effectively in stressful clinical situations.
