About the role

Lifesteps is a non-profit human services organization serving Western Pennsylvania for over 100 years, dedicated to helping individuals and families with life's changing needs. The Early Head Start Home Family Educator will provide child development and supportive services to families with infants, toddlers, and expectant mothers, working with both typically developing children and those with disabilities to implement the Early Head Start home-based curriculum.

Home Visitors connect families with community resources for social services, health services, child socializations, child advocacy, crisis intervention, and parent involvement training. The role involves significant documentation and requires building trusting relationships while advocating for pregnant mothers and babies. Family Educators report to the office in Chippewa/Beaver Falls daily and use a company vehicle to travel to home visits in Beaver County.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and implement home-based learning experiences to ensure effective curriculum delivery and promote children’s progress.
  • Provide child development services and support to families with infants, toddlers, and expectant mothers.
  • Connect families with community resources and agencies for health, social services, and crisis intervention.
  • Advocate for pregnant mothers and babies while building trusting relationships.
  • Complete documentation as a key part of the role.
  • Travel to home visits in Beaver County using a company-provided vehicle.

Requirements

  • Associate Degree (AA) in Early Childhood Education, Child Development and Family Relations, Special Education, Social Work, Human Services, or a related field.
  • Competency in planning and implementing home-based learning experiences.
  • Knowledge of infant/toddler development, education, health, nutrition, safety, family dynamics, and adult learning principles.
  • Ability to link families with community resources and agencies.
  • Proficiency with basic computer tasks or Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds without assistance.
  • Current driver’s license and ability to travel for business.

Qualifications (Preferred)

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Early Childhood Education or a related field.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish).
  • Experience working with families, expectant mothers, and/or children birth to 3 years old.

Schedule

  • Full-time, Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM.
  • Occasional evenings and weekends; no holidays.
