Human Services Association (HSA) is a private nonprofit agency whose principal mission is to provide families with compassionate and comprehensive care to promote wellness and build strong communities. Founded in Bell Gardens in 1940, HSA serves over 20,000 clients annually on a non-sectarian basis with a range of services that address the unique and shared needs of clients of all ages.

About the role

The Home-Based Educator provides child development services, social services, health services, and parent involvement services to families, including home visits, socializations, advocacy, and crisis intervention in accordance with federal, state, and program guidelines. Responsible for delivering prenatal education and home-based education, as defined by Head Start Performance Standards, to families. This includes planning safe and developmentally appropriate experiences for pregnant women, infants, toddlers, and/or preschool children in an in-home setting tailored to each family's needs. The role involves developing and implementing partnerships with families, collaborating on child goals, assisting families in building on their strengths, and addressing areas of concern.

Responsibilities

  • Provide child development, parent education, and family support during home visits, utilizing the GGK Curriculum.
  • Plan for and facilitate parent-child interactions and socialization groups.
  • Provide developmentally appropriate curriculum and a nurturing environment for infants and toddlers.
  • Develop individual development plans and child goals in partnership with parents.
  • Complete weekly reports identifying progress in meeting school readiness goals.
  • Participate in IFSP/IEP and Multidisciplinary Team Meetings, as needed.
  • Support families in achieving their goals and assist in obtaining health or other services.
  • Implement comprehensive child development and family support services in compliance with Head Start Performance Standards.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential records, ensuring all child education files are current.
  • Identify and report suspected child abuse following Mandated Reporter Guidelines.
  • Communicate respectfully and in a culturally sensitive manner with children, families, and staff.
  • Work as a member of the agency team, promoting the mission and philosophy.
  • Represent the agency at community and professional functions.
  • Model the Standard of Conduct Policy, maintain good attendance and punctuality.
  • Participate in meetings, trainings, and continue professional development.
  • Willingness to work evenings, weekends, and travel for trainings.
  • Participate in at least two recruitment activities or community events.
  • Attend department, agency, and community meetings as assigned.
  • Assist with other tasks as needed, in line with the team philosophy.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum three (3) Infant/Toddler units.
  • At least one (1) year of experience in early childhood education, social services, or a family support program. Early Head Start/Head Start and home visiting experience preferred.
  • Knowledge and experience working with Head Start Performance Standards, Title V, Title 22, CACFP Regulations, and other State and Federal Regulations.
  • Possess or meet requirements for Associate Teacher Permit or higher.
  • Valid California Driver’s License, proof of full insurance coverage, and use of personal vehicle for driving.
  • First Aid certification and Child CPR certification.
  • Health screening: Negative tuberculosis screen (TB), TDAP or DTAP clearance, and MMR clearance.
  • Ability to pass a criminal background check using Live Scan fingerprinting.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
  • Proficiency in reading, speaking, and writing English.

Skills

Pay

$25.00 - $28.00 per hour.

Schedule

  • Full-time, non-exempt position.
  • 40 hours per week.
  • 12-month term.
  • Occasional evenings and weekends for trainings or events.

Work Environment

  • Work in moderate noise levels and a non-smoking environment.
  • Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds independently.
  • Frequently involves sitting, standing, walking, squatting, bending, and climbing stairs.
  • Occasionally may be required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Must be able to speak and hear clearly to communicate effectively.
  • Constantly operates a computer, keyboard, and other office machinery.
  • Majority of job duties are performed onsite; visits to different sites may be required.
