Heavy Duty Mechanic

Full-time position located at HC Maui Maint Shop, PO Box 488, Kahului, HI 96732, USA. Rate: $42.74 USD per hour.

Requirements

• Light welding experience
• GED and/or equivalent combination of experience
• Must become a member of the ILWU local 142
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs

Preferred Qualifications

• Mechanic certification from an accredited program (ASE diesel mechanic or equivalent)
• CDL Class B license, valid DOT medical card, and acceptable driving record
• 4+ years experience working on heavy equipment

Responsibilities

• General overhauls of plant equipment such as crushers, screens, feeders, and batching plants; rebuilds equipment components and troubleshoots
• Diagnose malfunctions and based on findings, repairs, adjusts, and maintains equipment
• May perform the duties of other mechanics or welders
• Uses hand and power tools common to the trade such as wrenches, hammers, hoists, drills, grinders, feeler gauges, indicators, and component testing equipment
• Drives pickup and tests equipment as necessary
• Performs established periodic P.M. checks as required
• Services (cleans, oils, and lubes) equipment, plant compressor, pumps, and meters
• Follows established procedures in preparing necessary reports and requisitions
• Assists other tradesmen with repairs
• Oversees the work of trades helpers, other mechanics or welders, and other tradesmen where their assistance is needed
• Performs night shift work and other related duties as required
• Must have a working knowledge in repair, parts, and operation of equipment
• Always work safely and take action to prevent any and all unsafe actions, processes, and behaviors
• Performs other duties as assigned
