About the Role
This position oversees the Newborn Screening (NBS) Logistics Unit within the Genetic Disease Screening Program (GDSP). The incumbent manages workflows, supervises staff, and ensures adherence to Program protocols and policies. Key responsibilities include:
- Direct supervision of Unit staff reviewing daily reports and coordinating with Newborn and Prenatal Screening (NAPS) laboratories.
- Troubleshooting NBS case management and fulfilling supply orders, records requests, and user identity management for GDSP applications.
- Oversight of NBS daily operations for specimens at NAPS laboratories and cases managed at NBS Area Service Centers (ASCs).
- Contract and personnel management.
The position reports to the Health Program Manager II, Chief of the Newborn Screening Section.
Requirements
- New to California state service: Must have passed the examination for this classification to be hired.
- Current state employees without transfer or list eligibility: Must have passed the examination for this classification to be hired.

- Must be a California resident at the time of appointment and maintain residency as a condition of employment.
- Travel may be required; reimbursement is subject to regulations and bargaining unit provisions.
Pay
Monthly salary range: $7,172.00 – $8,910.00. New hires start at the minimum salary of the classification or alternate range.
This position is subject to the Personal Leave Program (PLP) 2025, which temporarily reduces the monthly base pay by 3% in exchange for 5 hours of paid leave credits through June 2027. The salary range shown does not reflect this reduction.
Schedule
Permanent, full-time position. Hybrid telework may be eligible at the discretion of the Department, consistent with CDPH’s Telework Program. All teleworkers must reside in California.
