Guest Services Employee - Seasonal
About the Role
Work around exotic animals and conservation land in a seasonal guest services position. Shifts are primarily 9 AM–5 PM, with optional after-hours weekend events. Opportunity to extend employment for the Winter Light Spectacular fundraising event.
Responsibilities
- Create and maintain a positive experience for all zoo guests.
- Train for and master all department roles and expectations.
- Familiarize yourself with the Guest Service Handbook and Training Manual, including zoo policies and codes.
- Be accountable for sign-in/sign-out radios and proper radio communication.
- Learn safety codes and confidently react to emergencies.
- Attend the daily Morning Roundup, held 30 minutes before the zoo opens.
- Remain at your assigned role unless granted permission from your Guest Service Lead or SDO.
- Contribute to daily zoo cleanup after shifts or closing time as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned by zoo management.

Requirements
- Comfortable speaking to small and large groups of people.
- Friendly, outgoing, polite, and professional demeanor with guests and staff.
- Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships.
- Ability to follow written and oral directions and exercise sound judgment.
- Strong personal and professional image.
- Knowledgeable in money handling and essential math skills.
- Committed to ensuring all guests have a positive experience.
- Flexibility with schedule; available to work weekends, holidays, and evenings as needed.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Minors must provide a Work Permit.
- Must be 16 years or older with reliable transportation.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
The role involves walking throughout the zoo grounds, standing for long periods, and performing physical tasks such as sitting, standing, using hands, handling objects, balancing, stooping, talking, and hearing. Employees must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. Vision requirements include close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
The work environment is usually minimal in noise but requires working outside in all weather conditions throughout the day.
Pay
$10.00 per hour.
