Group Leader - Pheresis

About the role

This role involves performing pheresis procedures and plasma collections, educating new donors, and maintaining a clean and efficient work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Performs pheresis procedures and plasma collections in compliance with SOPs and FDA guidelines.
  • Evaluates vein performance and makes necessary corrections to ensure efficiency and donor safety.
  • Educates new donors on the use of therapeutic products and provides information on the screening process, health screening tests, appointment system, donation fees, center policies, and proper nutrition.
  • Maintains alertness to donor reactions and assists with reactions or notifies appropriate staff.
  • Records incidents during the pheresis process using a PDA.
  • Provides guidance and technical training to donor floor and other staff.
  • Maintains donor flow and allocates resources to address donor backlog.
  • Performs calibrations and verifies maintenance according to SOPs.
  • Troubleshoots equipment failures and creates incident documentation.
  • Changes supply lot numbers in the electronic donor information management system.
  • Supports center management by providing input into staff scheduling and resolving minor donor relations and technical procedure issues.
  • Accurately records donor data in the electronic donor information management system.
  • Understands and promotes safety in all actions.
  • Maintains a clean and efficient work environment and ensures sufficient operating supplies and forms are available.
  • Follows all HSE and OSHA policies and procedures.
  • May be cross-trained in other areas to meet the needs of the business.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum 18 months experience in a medical or health care environment preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Specialized medical or phlebotomy training preferred.

Qualifications

  • Ability to make decisions which have moderate impact on immediate work unit.
  • Understands, remembers, and communicates routine, factual information.
  • Must be able to see and speak with customers and observe equipment operation.
  • Occasionally perform tasks while standing and walking up to 100% of time.
  • Reach, bend, kneel, and have high level of manual dexterity.
  • Occasionally be required to lift and carry up to 25 pounds.
  • Frequently exposed to hazardous chemicals, extreme temperatures, and blood borne pathogens.
  • Required to wear Personal Protective Equipment while performing specific tasks or in certain areas.
  • Required to work overtime and extended hours to support center operational needs.

Skills

  • Knowledge of pheresis procedures and plasma collections.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with donors and staff.
  • Technical skills in using a PDA and troubleshooting equipment.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Attention to detail and ability to maintain confidentiality.
