Group Leader - Pheresis
About the role
Performs all aspects of the pheresis procedure and plasma collection, including donor set-up, monitoring, and disconnect. Also involved in venipuncture, educating new donors, assisting with reactions, maintaining records, troubleshooting equipment, and supporting center management.
Responsibilities
- Performs pheresis and plasma collection according to SOPs and FDA guidelines.
- Evaluates vein performance and adjusts donation process for efficiency and donor safety.
- Trains and educates new donors on therapeutic products and donation process.
- Maintains alertness to donor reactions and assists with reactions or notifies staff.
- Records incidents using a PDA and maintains clean, efficient work environment.
- Monitors donor flow and allocates resources to address backlog.
- Performs calibrations, verifies maintenance, troubleshoots equipment failures, and changes supply lot numbers.
- Supports staff scheduling, resolves minor issues, and provides input into staff training.
- Affirms accurate donor data and understands hyper immune program policies.
- Maintains confidentiality and follows HSE and OSHA policies.
- May be cross-trained in other areas as needed.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Minimum 18 months experience in a medical or health care environment preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Specialized medical or phlebotomy training preferred.

- Ability to make decisions with moderate impact on immediate work unit.
- Understands, remembers, and communicates routine, factual information.
- Must be able to see and speak with customers and observe equipment operation.
- Occasionally perform tasks while standing and walking.
- Reach, bend, kneel, and have high level of manual dexterity.
- Occasionally lift and carry up to 25 pounds.
- Frequently exposed to hazardous chemicals, extreme temperatures, and blood borne pathogens.
- Required to wear Personal Protective Equipment.
- Work in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions.
- May conduct routine audits of internal procedures and documentation.
Skills
- Strong communication and customer service skills.
- Attention to detail and ability to follow SOPs and guidelines.
- Basic computer literacy, including use of a PDA.
- Knowledge of health and safety regulations.
