Group Leader - Pheresis

About the role

Performs all aspects of the pheresis procedure and plasma collection, including donor set-up, monitoring, and disconnect. Also responsible for venipuncture initiation, vein performance evaluation, donor education, reaction assistance, incident recording, process guidance, donor flow monitoring, calibration verification, equipment troubleshooting, supply lot changes, staff scheduling, minor issue resolution, donor data accuracy, policy understanding, environment maintenance, confidentiality, and cross-training.

Responsibilities

• Complies with SOPs and FDA guidelines for pheresis and venipuncture procedures.
• Evaluates vein performance and adjusts to enhance donation efficiency and safety.
• Trains and educates new donors on therapeutic products, screening process, and center policies.
• Maintains awareness of donor reactions and assists with or reports them.
• Records and documents incidents related to the pheresis process using a PDA.
• Provides technical guidance and training to donor floor and other staff.
• Maintains donor flow and allocates resources to manage donor backlog.
• Monitors and verifies maintenance according to SOPs, and resolves equipment issues.
• Changes supply lot numbers in the electronic donor information management system.
• Supports center management with staff scheduling and resolves minor issues.
• Audits internal procedures and documentation for safety and compliance.
• Maintains a clean, efficient work environment and ensures adequate supplies.
• Ensures confidentiality of all personnel, donor, and center information.
• May be cross-trained in other areas to meet business needs.

Requirements

Minimum 18 months experience in a medical or health care environment preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience. Specialized medical or phlebotomy training preferred. Ability to stand, walk, reach, bend, kneel, and lift up to 25 pounds occasionally. Frequent exposure to hazardous chemicals, extreme temperatures, and bloodborne pathogens. Must wear Personal Protective Equipment as required. Overtime and extended hours may be required.

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent required. Bilingual skills may be required, at the discretion of the organization.

Skills

Ability to make decisions with moderate impact on immediate work unit. Understands, remembers, and communicates routine, factual information. Manual dexterity and high level of manual dexterity required. Knowledge of Health Safety & Environmental (HSE) and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) policies and procedures. Familiarity with hyper immune programs at the center if applicable. Understanding of policies and procedures associated with hyper immune programs at the center if applicable.
