About the Role
This position is responsible for the cultivation, maintenance, and promotion of plants, turf, or a plant collection within an assigned program or geographical area of the University. The role involves observing and diagnosing structural and horticultural problems.
Responsibilities
- Install new plant material following plans and approved horticultural or grounds practices and procedures.
- Maintain beds through pruning, weeding, mulching, fertilizing, and spraying plant material, which may include pesticides.
- Perform a wide range of horticultural and landscape management duties, including:
- Assisting in cultural activities.
- Spraying pesticides.
- Operating equipment.
- Conducting lawn and landscape renovations.
- Installing and repairing landscapes.
- Repairing irrigation systems.
- Participate in landscape design and construction.
- Supply and arrange special foliage for events.
- Coordinate seasonal color displays.
- Promote knowledge and understanding of plants.
- Use specialized tools for cultivation, maintenance, and transportation of plants.
- Serve as a member of the snow and ice management team during winter months.
Requirements
- Valid N.C. Driver’s License or the ability to obtain one prior to the hire date.
