About the role
Positions in the Operations Officer series contribute to the effective management of an organizational unit, such as a section, division, or agency, by supervising and/or managing staff, problem-solving as an individual contributor, or project managing. Roles in this series are differentiated based on factors including analytics, budget, communications, environmental factors, functional responsibilities, policy, relationship building, and levels of supervision given and received.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration, public administration, management, or a related field from an accredited college.
- Four years of experience in professional-level administrative, operations, or technical work. Previous work lead experience may be required.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute for the above.
- Valid Maryland Class C Noncommercial driver's license or an equivalent driver’s license, and eligibility to obtain a Baltimore City driver’s permit. Provisional driver’s licenses or learner permits are not acceptable. A copy of your valid driver’s license must be uploaded with your application.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
- Knowledge of the principles and practices of public and business administration and management, including planning, organizing, staffing, directing, and controlling.
- Knowledge of methods and procedures for collecting, organizing, interpreting, and presenting information.
- Knowledge of basic principles of accounting, budgeting, fiscal controls, and statistics.
- Knowledge of management practices and methods.
- Ability to adapt and apply administrative analysis concepts and techniques to project needs.
- Ability to identify problem areas and recommend solutions based on logical consideration of alternatives.
- Ability to interpret and apply laws, rules, regulations, standards, and procedures.
- Ability to prepare and present reports or recommendations clearly and concisely.
- Ability to compile financial and operational data and analyze charts, reports, and statistical and budgetary statements.
- Ability to coordinate the activities of various organizational units.
- Ability to plan, organize, and direct the work of others.
- Ability to research and write complex narrative and statistical reports.
- Ability to speak and testify effectively before governmental and legal bodies, the media, and community and business groups.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with city officials, community, and business groups.

Additional Information
- Eligible candidates under final consideration for positions of trust will be required to complete a criminal background check and/or fingerprinting.
