About the role

Sun River Health is a Federally Qualified, Non-Profit Health Center serving communities in Suffolk, Rockland, Orange, Dutchess, Ulster, Sullivan, Columbia and Westchester County. We are currently seeking a Full-Time Medical Assistant/Patient Representative at our Beacon location.

Responsibilities

  • Takes vital signs, vision, and/or hearing tests, record patient data in eCW, (laboratory results, pain level, PEAS, PhQ, Smoke status, etc.), Document reason for visit and insure CVRs are completed as needed.
  • Performs in-house labs, collect specimens for outside labs (ex. Pap, cultures, etc), perform quality control in accordance with organizational protocols.
  • Prepares exam room and any needed equipment and assists/chaperones during examination and treatment of patients.
  • Keeps clinical area stocked and in good order. Assures that all dated material is kept current and disposes of outdated supplies.
  • Cleans and sterilizes all equipment and logs each time this service is performed.
  • Performs basic clerical work in service area; answer phones in appropriate manner, communicate problems/concerns to nurse; handle telephone inquiries.
  • Ensures all appropriate logs are maintained.
  • Facilitates patient care within different departments of SRH and outside agencies.
  • Verifies all insurance and sets fees based on the sliding scale fee.
  • Consults with medical staff to link patients to services through the provision of ancillaries such as translation, transportation assistance and application assistance.
  • Assists with daily reception activities and ensures that all processes needed for patient services are initiated.
  • Provides basic instruction/health education to clarify provider instructions, procedures and referral needs.

Requirements

  • High School diploma/GED
  • National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA)

  • Ability to multitask and prioritize effectively.
  • Basic computer skills including Microsoft Office.
